Things to learn from ancient schools in this AI world

The future of a country is directly proportional to the number of educated, open minds it produces through the diligence and total dedication of its educators. Ancient India boasted a profound education system known as Gurukul, in which teachers educated their students regardless of caste or financial status in society. These gurukuls were built in the woods so that disciples could gain a better understanding of life and develop the skills needed to face any type of challenge.

However, in today's world, when children are more exposed to the computer world and mobile devices, there are some things that should be brought back to the "modern system of education."

Let’s explore:

·         Knowledge and skills related to life

The recent pandemic forced all of us to think and act differently. The focus is now on survival and the skills needed to do so. Of course, our intelligence as an evolved human beings lies in using technology to achieve the purpose and not be tamed by it.

For example- A lot of children learned how to assist their parents with household chores, meditate and learn music and instruments to calm their minds. These skills would prepare them to lead a better life and handle stress well.

·         Self-care

The ancient Indian educational system inculcated in students the importance of caring for their mental and physical health. It also taught them how to deal with natural disasters and war situations. Such self-care skills are valuable even today and should be taught in schools. Parents and schools can play an important role in preparing children for all of life's situations.

·         Respect and discipline

In ancient India, the superior teacher was accorded all due respect and recognition for devoting all of his time to the welfare and education of his students. At the same time, students were recognised and trained based on their abilities, allowing them to become more confident and evolved human beings. The key to their success was consistent focus and discipline—something we must all strive for in today's world! Students must learn to control and shape their energy in order to grow. It is critical to teach them how to stay focused and committed to their path.
